OTHER FAQs

What are the basic requirements for donating blood?

You need to be at least 16-years-old (under 18 requires a signed minor donor permit), weight 110 pounds* and in good health. For further details visit this link.
* There are some weight and height restrictions for donors younger than 23. Visit this link to learn more.

If I get a tattoo, how long do I have to wait until I can give blood?

The deferral time depends on which state you got the tattoo and their local regulations. In Arizona, there is no donation deferral. In Nevada, you must wait one year before donating. If it’s not one of these two states, we recommend that you call our eligibility hotline at 1-800-288-2199, extension 5497. Leave a message and your call will be returned shortly.

I want to host a blood drive at my organization. Who do I contact?

Go to http://arizonahero.com/hostblooddrive and submit your information through our easy online form. A representative will be in touch with you soon!

What’s it like to donate blood?

A brief interview is the first step. You’ll be asked about your medical history and current health. We’ll check your temperature, blood pressure, pulse and blood iron level. You’ll relax in a comfortable chair while a technician collects your blood donation. After donating, you’ll be invited to rest and enjoy a light snack. You may then resume your usual routine. The whole donation process from beginning to end takes about an hour.
